'Saudi confirmation implies Malaysia co-opted into its bloc'

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu today said the Saudi government’s confirmation that it had deposited RM2.6 billion donation into prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s personal account has given the impression that Malaysia has been co-opted into its bloc of geo-politics.

In a statement, Mohamad said the recent confirmation by Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir has made it seem as if Najib has been “bought” by the Saudi government.

“Saudi Arabia is currently leading a big bloc in the Middle East and seen to be in conflict with groups (countries) from other blocs.

“The admission on donation to Najib makes it appear as if Malaysia has been bought to join the bloc led by Saudi,” Mohamad said in a statement.

This, he said, was contrary to the times when the Malaysian prime minister had earned accolades for the country’s role in resolving conflicts - as members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Non-Aligned Movement.

“Malaysia should once again play its role as the mediator and peacemaker, not the instigator. Those were the roles played by all past prime ministers before Najib,” Mohamad said.

As such, he said Najib should resign from his position as the donation has compromised Malaysia’s position as an independent and non-aligned nation, Al-Jubeir had reportedly told Malaysian reporters in Istanbul on Friday that the Saudi government is aware of the donation and it is a genuine donation with nothing expected in return.

“We are also fully aware that the attorney-general of Malaysia has thoroughly investigated the matter and found no wrongdoing.

"So, as far as we are concerned, the matter is closed," Al-Jubeir said.

Al-Jubeir, however, had also reportedly told The New York Times on Feb 6 that he does not think the RM2.6 billion was a political donation, or that it originated from the Saudi government.

Umno leaders urge an end to the matter following Al-Jubeir’s statement, while attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali said there is no reason to look into the issue again.

Apandi had in January exonerated Najib of wrongdoing over the donation and RM42 million from state firm SRC International, found in the PM’s bank account.

16.04.16 THE HYPOCRISY OF MALAY MUSLIMS

April 16, 2016

Shafiqah Othman Hamzah, Malay Mail Online
Zakir Naik is a world-renowned Islamic scholar. Love him or hate him, you cannot deny that his name has travelled across continents and countries.
He’s also an extremely controversial figure. Known to many as an authority in comparative religion, while to some others, as a charlatan who holds no regard for people of other faith.
This Sunday, April 17, Zakir Naik was scheduled to have a talk at UTeM titled “Similarities between Hinduism and Islam.” However, the talk got cancelled after it raised uneasiness within the Hindu community. Sensitivities were touched and eventually, IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar released a statement regarding its cancellation.
Immediately after, there was an uproar in the Malay Muslim community. People started talking about how this was an infringement of freedom of speech, and that Hindus were probably just afraid that their adherents would convert en masse during the talk.
People started talking as though Zakir Naik was denied entry into the country, like how he is barred from UK and Canada. They started talking as though all his talks were cancelled when that was just one out of the many other events he has here. The rest of his talks are carried out as per normal.
Zakir Naik released a statement about how he was upset that such a small matter was blown out of proportion to the extent that Malay Muslims were fighting amongst themselves. He said that some Muslims even had the audacity to call another Muslim “kafir” just because of different opinions.
However, amidst the hustle and bustle of the controversy, I cannot help but feel appalled; not by Zakir Naik, but by the hypocrisy of Malay Muslims. The Malay Muslim community of Malaysia has such jarring double standards, and it’s even more obvious now than ever.
The Malay Muslims who get upset when people talk bad about Islam or when Muslims present a version of Islam that is unfamiliar to them are the same Malay Muslims who shout “It’s freedom of speech!” when Muslims belittle other religions or when an Islamic scholar says something that is potentially inflammatory but is parallel to their beliefs.
But where were you when Dr Ulil Abshar Abdalla was denied entry into Malaysia in 2014 for supposedly being a deviant? Zakir Naik is notorious for his support of al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden while Ulil was denied entry to “defend Malaysia’s brand of Islam” despite wanting to speak against terrorism. What does this say about our brand of Islam then?
The Malay Muslims who say that freedom of religion is mutually exclusive from Islam, disallowing the propagation or profession of other faiths while discriminating against converts from Islam or apostates, are the same Malay Muslims who use that term to justify the propagation of Islam, to fight back cases of Islamophobia, to encourage adherents of other religions to join Islam and to defend converts into Islam who are attacked by their family or friends.
But where were you when Lina Joy wanted to get her religion changed legally? Where is your outrage regarding the Raif Badawi case? Did you try to defend Juli Jalaluddin when she was deported out of Malaysia?
The Malay Muslims who are against pluralism and expect religious minorities to respect the needs and wants of the Muslim majority are the same Malay Muslims who would be appalled at the news of abuse or killings of Muslim minorities in foreign countries, saying, “We should respect other religions! We have to learn to live in peace and harmony!”
But where were you when protests were held against the construction of a Hindu temple? Or when Molotov cocktails were thrown at a church? Where were you when a church was forced to take down their cross?
The Malay Muslims who rallied behind Zakir Naik’s statement against excommunications of other Muslims are the same Malay Muslims who so very easily label others “kafir” for unorthodox opinions.
But where were you when progressive Muslims get told to leave Islam because of their opinions? Where were you when organisations like Sisters In Islam are labelled “deviant” and accused of infidelity? Did you try to stop any acts of takfir (excommunication of another Muslim) when you see it happen? Or did you jump on the bandwagon because the thoughts of these unorthodox Muslims didn’t mirror yours?
Obviously, I know that not all Malay Muslims think like this. But a huge group of us do and it can be seen everywhere. These Malay Muslims that I am talking about only support certain values when it benefits them, or wherever it is convenient for them. They don’t apply these values across the spectrum and immediately take back these “privileges” when someone does not share the same thoughts and opinions as they do.
Their “freedom of speech” means “freedom of speech only for my group.” Their “freedom of religion” means “freedom to only practise Islam.” Their disagreement on takfir means “as long as you think like me, you’re still a Muslim.”
If you don’t agree with the limitation of Zakir Naik’s freedom of speech, you shouldn’t agree with the limitation of other Muslims’ freedom of speech. If you don’t agree with the belittling of Islam, you shouldn’t agree with the belittling of other religions. If you don’t agree with the excommunication of Zakir Naik, you should not agree with the excommunication of other Muslims.
The problem now is not with Zakir Naik, but with the hypocrisy of our Malay Muslims. Like what is written in the Qur’an, “Do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just.” Thinking back, have we really been just to the rest of Malaysians? I wonder.

16.04.15 The Politics of the PAC Report

15 April 2016

Image result for PAC Report on 1MDB

Let us talk about this ‘project’.

The 'project' is nothing more than to create a front/fence company whose bulk of capital if not all, will come from Malaysia led by its overeager PM/Finance Minister, the man much loved by all under the Malayan sky.

The idea is to persuade the Malaysian government to put in USD1bilion cash as its contribution to the capital. Later, portions of this money will be quickly channeled fraudulently into accounts held and controlled by one JHo Low. The Company then went on a binge of issuing bonds and assuming debts placing the country on a perilous financial precipice.

The only person wholly responsible for placing tis country in economic harm's way is Najib Tun Razak.

The ‘project’ was actually already discussed between Jho Low and his partners in crime. Tarek Obaid, Peter Mahoney, Prince Turki etc etc. The PAC Report never mentioned these people, possibly in compliance to its self-imposed terms of reference.

Thou shall not violate the first principle- never forsake the cari makan covenant.

Sarawak Report’s revelations of this sordid event are more credible and believable. The PAC Report gives absolute credence to what Sarawak Report had reported. Those who went out of their way to intimidate, discredit or stop Sarawak Report from revealing the facts of the matter should now be investigated. Who paid them and what were their motives in trying to put a lid on the biggest financial scandal in Malayan history?

Since 1MDB assumed the initial IMTN arranged by AMbank, I would like to see Ambank investigated for is role in the affair. The Terengganu government lodged a complaint to say that Ambank was somewhat an accessory to some financial tricks carried out by Shahrol Azral. How did Ambank get appointed as lead manager, primary subscriber or whatever in the first place? Let’s investigate whether there was a deal between Shahrol Azral and AmBank in the first place.

How now, brown cow?

Why isn’t Casey Tang investigated? He gave good recommendations to 1MDB’s BOD and indeed implored the BOD to conclude the deal by 28 September 2009. Why was he so anxious? Casey Tang made it out that the business deal is a G2G arrangement.

Was Casey Tang authorised to speak on behalf of the government and if so, was there a  written approval by the PM given to him? since by way of article 117, any commitment involving the nation and its interest must be approved by the greatest Bugis warrior in modern Malayan history, if Casey Tang hasn't gotten approval, then he, Casey Tang has committed a treacherous act.

Casey Tang went even further by saying that PIL belonged to King Abdullah and was established in the year 2000. The PAC said that the company did not belong to King Abdullah and it was formed only in 2005. So Casey Tang was lying. Was he lying because he was paid money by Jho Low?

In fact as reported by PAC and of course earlier sounded out by Sarawak Report, Petrosaudi Holdings( Cayman) PHL registered a company called PIL( BVI) on 18 September 2009.

Everybody seems to be in the loop. The people in London who hatched the idea, Shahrol Azral, Casey Tang were all in to marry off 1MDB with PIL- the front company. What the AC report didn’t mention was these plans were concocted by Jho Low, Tarek Obaid, Patrick Mahoney, and possibly Shahrol Azral. Casey Tang was already a plant by this group and this ought to be enough to explain his eager exertions to close the deal. When he was briefing the BOD, he was in fact saying, trust me, this is a good deal. Casey Tang was in fact appointed as the corporate representative in the JV Company later.   Where the hell is Carmen Santiago might as well be the same question posed of Casey Tang. Where the hell is Casey Tang now? By this time, many are aware of article 117 of a company’s M&A. and its sub-clauses. In the case of TIA and then 1MDB it says every financial commitment must be approved by the PM. He was the first chairman of 1MDB and then later, its chairman to the advisory board of 1MDB. Doesn’t matter what it says, it meant his approval must be obtained before any money is sent out. I have already said, the 3-tiered structure of approval, isn’t there to shield Najib from being directly linked to 1MDB; Its structured in such a way to ensure not a single sen can go out from 1MDB without his knowledge, awareness and final approval. How does one infer Najib’s approval? By having his signature on every document. His signature validates any transaction. They carry his stamp of approval. Now, we have heard one lawyer, who is more known as an out of court kautimer- says Najib’s signature does not mean he approves and is therefore responsible. Now of course, I realise the truth in a friend’s opinion that lawyers are like the eggs we buy from the supermarket. They come in various grades. So it’s up to readers to place into which grade to place the lawyer who says the PM’s signature has no meaning. The PAC Report is like Utusan Malaysia and some of the Chinese language newspapers. The only piece of news which is true and real in these papers, are the 4 digits results and Prayer times. Similarly, the only material that is true to the extent they are published in the PAC Report, are the numbers and figures. The narration is doubtful and I am not even sure its cari makan chairman read the Report. Many of us know for a fact, and that is because we know him personally, he knows nuts about 1MDB. Never bothered to follow the issue other than bitch-ying about Mahathir going overboard. This was before he even became the PAC chairman. The Report can’t even differentiate between a parent company and its subsidiary. Petrosaudi Holdings Cayman Ltd is referred to both as the Parent Company and subsidiary of PetroSaudi International Ltd. So which is which? On page 24 of the PAC Report, PHL (Cayman)  was mentioned as the parent company. On page 31, the same company was mentioned as a subsidiary. PAC’s Board of directors are there to provide a semblance of good governance and compliance.  It remains that through the entire saga of 1MDB. Shahrol Azral can dismiss and ignore with impunity all the remonstrations and plaintiff requests of the BOD. Why? Because he answers directly to the PM who remains at all material times, the mastermind behind all the transactions of 1MDB. He does not need to micromanage the beastly 1MDB if Chief Nazri Aziz wants to know, he has his boy Shahrol Azral and then later Arul Kanda in 1MDB doing his bidding. That’s effectively micromanaging 1MDB. Because of its failures to act after repeatedly seeing Shahrol violating and defying its directives, all members of the BOD are complicit in the greatest heist of the century. Never believe this snobbish humility in admitting its dereliction of duty.Members of the Board and Top Management are just a malapertness of pedlars. Posted by sakmongkol AK47 (with permission)
